Make easy, sticky chicken wings coated in a sweet and tangy glaze featuring orange and honey flavors. This recipe yields perfectly caramelized wings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs chicken wings, separated into flats and drumettes
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup orange juice, fresh squeezed preferred
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top.
  2. Pat the chicken wings very dry with paper towels. Toss the wings with olive oil, salt, and pepper. Arrange them on the wire rack in a single layer.
  3. Bake the wings for 25 minutes. Flip the wings and bake for another 15-20 minutes until they are cooked through and starting to crisp.
  4. While the wings bake, prepare the glaze. In a small saucepan, combine the honey, orange juice, soy sauce, rice vinegar, ginger, and garlic.
  5. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally. Let it simmer for 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch and cold water to create a slurry. Pour the slurry into the simmering sauce while whisking constantly.
  7. Continue to cook and whisk until the sauce thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon, about 1-2 minutes. Remove from heat.
  8. Once the wings are done baking, place them in a large bowl. Pour about half of the glaze over the hot wings and toss to coat them completely.
  9. Return the glazed wings to the baking sheet. Bake for an additional 5-7 minutes to set the glaze and caramelize the exterior.
  10. Remove from the oven. Toss the wings with the remaining glaze just before serving.

Notes

  • For extra crispy wings before glazing, bake them at 425°F (220°C) for the initial baking time.
  • If you prefer an air fryer method, cook wings at 380°F (195°C) for 20 minutes, flipping halfway, before tossing with the glaze and cooking for 3 more minutes.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds or sliced green onions if desired.
