A recipe for fresh, sweet, and spicy mango salsa featuring jalapeño and lime.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ripe mangoes, diced
  • 1/2 red onion, finely diced
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and minced (use more or less for desired heat)
  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice (about 2 limes)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

Instructions

  1. Peel and dice the mangoes into small, uniform pieces. Place them in a medium bowl.
  2. Finely dice the red onion and mince the jalapeño. Add both to the bowl with the mango.
  3. Chop the fresh cilantro and add it to the mixture.
  4. Pour the fresh lime juice over the ingredients.
  5. Add the salt and ground cumin.
  6. Gently stir all ingredients together until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  7. Cover the bowl and let the salsa rest in the refrigerator for at least 15 minutes before serving. This allows the flavors to meld.

Notes

  • For a milder salsa, remove all seeds and white membranes from the jalapeño. For hotter salsa, leave some seeds in or substitute with a habanero pepper.
  • This salsa pairs well with tortilla chips, grilled fish, chicken, or pork tacos.
  • Store leftover salsa in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
