You can make the rich, creamy, garlic-Parmesan flavor of Olive Garden Alfredo Sauce right in your kitchen. This easy recipe is ready in 20 minutes and tastes just like the restaurant favorite.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Do not let the butter brown.
  2. Whisk in the heavy cream, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally. Do not allow it to boil rapidly.
  3. Reduce the heat to low. Gradually whisk in the grated Parmesan cheese, a handful at a time, until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  4. Continue to cook on low for 2 to 3 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens slightly.
  5. Remove the sauce from the heat immediately. If you are serving with pasta, toss the sauce with hot, drained fettuccine immediately.

Notes

  • For the best texture, use freshly grated Parmesan cheese; pre-shredded cheese contains anti-caking agents that can make the sauce grainy.
  • If the sauce becomes too thick upon standing, whisk in a tablespoon of warm milk or reserved pasta water to reach your desired consistency.
  • This sauce is excellent for dipping warm breadsticks or as a base for chicken or shrimp Alfredo.
