Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon maple extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract and maple extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Stir in the chopped pecans.
  6. Press the dough evenly into the prepared baking pan.
  7. In a medium saucepan, combine the maple syrup, heavy cream, melted butter, light brown sugar, and salt. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly, about 5-7 minutes.
  8. Pour the maple pecan topping evenly over the dough in the pan.
  9. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the topping is bubbly.
  10. Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.

Notes

  • For a richer maple flavor, use dark or amber maple syrup.
  • Ensure your butter is softened for the best cookie base texture.
  • Allowing the bars to cool completely will make them easier to cut cleanly.
