Make a cafe-style iced brown sugar oatmilk latte at home using a simple homemade syrup recipe.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee or 2 shots espresso, cooled
  • 1 cup oat milk, chilled
  • Ice cubes

Instructions

  1. Make the syrup: Combine brown sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Do not boil. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract. Let the syrup cool completely.
  2. Prepare the coffee: Brew your coffee or pull your espresso shots. Allow the coffee to cool to room temperature or chill it quickly.
  3. Assemble the drink: Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
  4. Pour the cooled brown sugar syrup over the ice.
  5. Pour the cooled coffee or espresso over the syrup layer.
  6. Slowly top with the chilled oat milk.
  7. Serve immediately without stirring for the layered effect, or stir gently before drinking.

Notes

  • For a stronger coffee flavor, use espresso instead of brewed coffee.
  • If you do not have oat milk, you can substitute with almond milk or whole dairy milk, though the texture will change.
  • To speed up cooling the syrup, place the saucepan in an ice bath after removing it from the heat.
  • If you prefer a sweeter drink, increase the syrup amount to 1/3 cup.
