Make light and fluffy chocolate chip pancakes from scratch. This simple recipe delivers a classic, comforting breakfast quickly.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups milk
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a large bowl. Whisk these dry ingredients together.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and melted butter.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Mix gently until just combined. Do not overmix; a few lumps are fine for fluffy pancakes.
  4. Gently fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Heat a lightly oiled griddle or large non-stick pan over medium heat.
  6. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each pancake.
  7. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side, until bubbles appear on the surface and the edges look set. Flip and cook the second side until golden brown.
  8. Serve immediately with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For extra fluffiness, let the batter rest for 5 minutes before cooking.
  • Use room temperature milk and eggs for better mixing.
  • If you prefer smaller pancakes, use 2 tablespoons of batter per pancake.
