Bake chicken breasts covered in a rich, simple cream sauce packed with sharp cheddar and Parmesan cheese for a comforting, indulgent dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, cubed
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Rub the chicken breasts with olive oil, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Place the seasoned chicken in the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the heavy cream, cubed cream cheese, and chicken broth. Stir constantly until the cream cheese melts completely and the mixture is smooth. Do not let it boil.
  4. Remove the sauce from the heat. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, Parmesan cheese, and Italian seasoning until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is uniform.
  5. Pour the cheese sauce evenly over the chicken breasts in the baking dish.
  6. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit.
  7. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving directly from the dish.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, you can substitute half of the cheddar cheese with Gruyère or Monterey Jack cheese.
  • If the sauce seems too thick after baking, stir in one tablespoon of extra chicken broth or milk to reach your desired consistency.
  • Serve this dish with steamed broccoli or mashed potatoes to soak up the extra sauce.
