Scale
1 pound breakfast sausage
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3 cups milk
Salt and black pepper to taste
1 (10.5 ounce) can refrigerated biscuits
2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large skillet, cook the breakfast sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain off excess grease.
Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to combine. Cook for 1 minute.
Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Bring to a simmer, stirring constantly, until the gravy thickens.
Season the gravy with salt and pepper to your liking.
Cut the refrigerated biscuits into quarters and place them in the bottom of a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
Pour the sausage gravy evenly over the biscuit pieces.
Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
For an extra rich flavor, you can use half-and-half instead of milk.
Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the gravy for a little heat.
You can prepare this casserole the night before and bake it in the morning. Cover and refrigerate, then add a few extra minutes to the baking time.
