Make this simple, no-yeast beer bread in minutes. It requires no rising or kneading, resulting in a fluffy interior and a crisp, buttery crust perfect for serving with soup or chili.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1 (12 ounce) bottle of beer, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease and flour a standard loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  3. In a separate small bowl, mix the melted butter and minced garlic. Set aside.
  4. Pour the entire bottle of beer into the dry ingredients. Stir just until combined; do not overmix.
  5. Fold in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  7. Brush the top of the batter evenly with the garlic butter mixture.
  8. Bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before turning it out onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • Use a light-colored beer, like a lager or pilsner, for the best texture and mildest flavor.
  • For an extra cheesy top, sprinkle a little extra cheddar cheese over the garlic butter before baking.
  • If you do not have fresh garlic, you can substitute 1 teaspoon of garlic powder mixed into the dry ingredients.
