1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup rolled oats
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
4 cups peeled and chopped apples (about 4 medium apples)
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
In a medium bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, and salt.
Pour in the melted butter and stir until the mixture is crumbly and well combined.
Press half of the crumb mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
In a separate bowl, toss the chopped apples with granulated sugar, 1 tablespoon flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice.
Spread the apple mixture evenly over the crumb base in the pan.
Sprinkle the remaining crumb mixture evenly over the apple layer.
Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
Let the bars cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares.
Notes
For extra flavor, you can add a pinch of ground cloves to the apple mixture.
Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
These bars can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
