You can achieve steakhouse-style baked potatoes with perfectly crispy skin and a light, fluffy interior using your air fryer. This quick and easy method saves time compared to oven baking, making it a perfect weeknight side dish or base for loaded meals.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large Russet potatoes (about 10-12 oz each)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon coarse sea salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Scrub the potatoes well under running water. Use a vegetable brush to remove any dirt from the skin. Dry the potatoes completely with a paper towel. This step is key for crispy skin.
  2. Prick each potato deeply 6 to 8 times all over using a fork. This allows steam to escape during cooking.
  3. Rub each potato thoroughly with olive oil. Distribute the oil evenly over the entire surface.
  4. Sprinkle the coarse sea salt and black pepper over the oiled skin. Rub the seasoning into the skin.
  5. Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  6. Place the seasoned potatoes in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Do not overcrowd the basket; work in batches if necessary.
  7. Air fry for 35 to 45 minutes. Cooking time depends on the size of your potatoes and your air fryer model.
  8. Flip the potatoes halfway through the cooking time (around the 20-minute mark).
  9. Check for doneness by piercing the center with a sharp knife or fork. If it slides in easily, the potato is done. The internal temperature should read 205°F (96°C).
  10. Carefully remove the potatoes from the air fryer. Slice them open lengthwise immediately and gently squeeze the sides to fluff the interior. Serve hot with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • For the crispiest skin, make sure the potatoes are completely dry before oiling them.
  • If you want an extra salty, steakhouse style potato, use a little more coarse salt on the outside.
  • If your potatoes are very large (over 12 oz), you may need to add 5-10 minutes to the total cook time.
  • This method works well for sweet potatoes too, though cook time may vary slightly.
